Thanks Mick, Well kudos too you for choosing the right stuff. Ludwig Supraphonics are the most recorded snare drums in history and for good reason they are versatile. I think any serious drummer needs to have one of each size in there arsenal. Studios will ask for them because they work. So onto the drums themselves I find that for live playing the 6.5 is the one. it has the depth of a big fat snare and yet when you hit the rim you get that crack that big rock sound. The fives are great too but if I had to choose, it's the 1970's Blue and Olive badge 6.5 that is my favorite. Now for the bad news I have two of them and one sounds better than the other, so you need to try them out but, I have never heard a bad one. I bought a couple on e-bay then compared them, I sold one and bought another and so on, and so on... Oh' the Nickle over brass Black beauties 6.5 are great too... Have fun hunting... All this talk about drums gas gotten me hungry I'm going shopping for some drums myself... Thanks, Kenny Kramme

ONE MORE Q? ARE WE TALKING CHROME OVER BRASS OR STEEL??

The 70's chrome over steel (Ludalloy) is the one for me... Cheaper too For a great one $400.00 and up... If you want to get a chrome over brass (great Drum) good luck. About $700.00 and up... Be warned there are people claiming to have them with red colored dampers with serial #'s (not true). Late fifties and early sixties keystone badged drums without serial #'s are the ones that are chrome over brass... Basically Ludwig Just chromed over the brass shelled black Beauties (nice) The other tip is chrome over brass shells do not pit as much as the steel (Ludalloy) shells...So if you see a drum and they claim it's chrome over brass and it has a bunch of chrome pitting it's not. The COB Snares are pretty rare so they have a higher price tag. It does not mean they are a better drum just unique. If you want a Black Beauty buy one. Try and get a 1920's, 30's or a 70's...Engraved would be nice.
